What do singaporeans think about the merlions?

ive heard that people from singapore either embrace the merlion as a national symbol or they dislike it because it's too touristy
so anyone from singapore what do you really think about the merlion?

Answer :
Some do view it as a sense of identity.

But most of us just see it as a tourist attraction and a Singaporean symbol.

There are many other Singaporean symbols too -->

1. Vanda Miss Joaquim - national flower

2. Singapore Flyer - biggest observation wheel currently in the world

3. Esplanade - arts and theatre, known as the 2 "durians" because of its architecturre

4. Our flag which we take pride in

5. Our pledge

6. Sentosa Island - underwater world, beaches, and upcoming Universals Studios.

7. Food

6. Racial and religious harmony

Answer :
merely a bid to attract more tourists to Singapore though I don't suppose that it is as great an attraction now than it was a couple number of years back.

now, it is more of leisure tourists coming to shop and corporate ones coming here on business meetings.

Answer :
just for lafs
you know if a pupil vomits in schools, we say he merlion!!!! evil right?
